A practical backup strategy built around multiple copies, recovery testing and clear priorities.

Synchronization is not always a backup

A synced folder can quickly copy accidental deletion, corruption or ransomware to every connected device. A useful backup keeps previous versions and remains separate enough to survive the same failure.

Use more than one location

The familiar 3-2-1 principle means three copies, on two types of storage, with one copy elsewhere. Cloud storage can help, but an encrypted local drive often makes large recoveries faster.

Test the recovery path

A backup is only valuable if files can be restored. Schedule small recovery tests, record encryption keys safely and verify that important folders—not merely the easiest folders—are included.
