I have recieved a macbook Air and..
Guess what? It does EXACTLY what I need it to do, and it is light enough to carry it anywhere all the time. Battery life concerns? Get the airline adapter, ethernet connections? Get the adapter! One usb port? Get a hub if you need more. As a travel computer I never need more than one, and wireless works for almost everything I need, except the odd time when I need ethernet, that is WHY there is an adapter.

here's a good review for it:

<blockquote>
And so Apple is sending a powerful message: that CDs and DVDs aren’t the best ways to deliver data (movies are an exception, although it would seem not for too long, with the iTunes Music Store expanding so rapidly with so much new content) and that they’re on their way out of the portable computing world.
</blockquote>

Not sure where you got bit about "iTunes movie deal... [taking] over the world". As I've mentioned in the paragraph I've quoted above -- you can use the "blockcode" tag (between <>) to get them, although yeah, I should have a button for it *sigh* -- movies are actually an exception, and that I think Blu-Ray will reign supreme for quite a while for HD-hungry consumers and until HD over the Internet actually becomes a comfortable reality (which would mean even faster data transfer rates and bandwidth).

And wow, it is impressive indeed lugging around that Dell. It's insanely heavy for me!

[Q] But not when I’m on the move. No way; even a short 10 minute walk with that beast will kill you. In a way that even a a two-hour, no-break workout at the gym can’t. [/Q]

fragile shoulders...tsk tsk tsk...my mom had the same laptop (her office gave it to her) and she used to 'lug' that around without any complaints...and does this quote this actually work? why don't you have a quote function?

as for your article...i'm not convinced about the itunes movie deal that you seem to think will take over the world...and we all know you've never been good at making predictions now have you? :D

lol I actually use that 17" Dell when I'm not with my mini and -- and for some this will be tough to understand, but here goes -- when the electricity's out for hours. But not when I'm on the move. No way; even a short 10 minute walk with that beast will kill you. In a way that even a a two-hour, no-break workout at the gym can't. :P

But yes, the Air has flaws and I stand by most of what I said in the older article - with revision 2, and when the other Mac portables inherit bits of the Air's design, things should be better.

We can hope for something in WWDC '08 in June, but, I don't think we're seeing an all-new MacBook; a speed-bump perhaps, but that's it.

I dnt knw parimal if you have persuaded me to 'like' the macbook air even after the long appreciation article...the sacrifice of of performance and the optical drive...with few usb ports kills the Air. In addition, apple isn't the first on making thin and ultra portable laptops...
I would get the Pro and build up my biceps then compromise on performance...
but sure would love to get one for free... :)
